1/14/2008  EVERETT SILVER BLADES WIN THE MILLENNIUM CUP AT THE BC/YT OPEN SYNCHRO CHAMPIONSHIPS

Everett, Washington – 14 January 2008– Two teams from the Everett Silver Blades synchronized skating group, won the Millennium Cup at the BC/YT Open Synchro Championships held this past weekend in Langley, B.C., Canada. Skating their personal best, the two teams consisting of eight skaters each from all over the Seattle area placed fourth in their respective categories – Festival Pre-Juvenile and Festival Pre-Novice.

Chosen by their peers, the Millennium Cup is a great honor to receive. It is given to the team that “best exemplifies the Spirit of Synchronized Skating”, demonstrating great sportsmanship with each other, as well as for all the other competitors.

“With the synchro program in only its second year in Everett, I am so honored and proud that we received the Millennium Cup. It is a testament to how wonderful these young skaters are and what great team spirit they have,” noted Melani Young, the Director and Coach of the Silver Blades.

Synchronized skating is group skating, consisting of eight to 20 skaters and is a discipline of figure skating. Synchro (which began approximately 50 years ago in the U.S.) is growing in popularity and numbers throughout the world. The 2008 BC/YT Open Synchro Championships, hosted by the Langley Figure Skating Club and sanctioned by Skate Canada and the USFS, were held at the George Preston Recreation Centre in Langley, B.C., Canada, January 12th and 13th. Twenty-six teams from the U.S. and Canada participated in seven different levels.

The Everett Silver Blades and the Everett Figure Skating Club are a part of the Comcast Community Ice Rink. The Comcast Community Ice Rink is used for figure skating, public skating, local hockey leagues and much more. For more information on synchro skating and the Everett Silver Blades, contact Melani Young at 425-359-1487.
